"I believe we're beginning to find our niche", is how Tommy Read describes where Judas Feet is musically as they are set to release their second CD. Behind the Evening runs the musical gambit of senses - With everything from the pure acoustic "Southern Lullabye" (2 vocals and a guitar centered around one microphone - sans reverb, even) to a couple of fully produced rockers, "Misery" and "Dew on the Moon". And another 9 songs somewhere in-between, this CD proves that Tommy just may be on to something...Judas Feet's niche has a home just about anywhere.

Another Tommy lyric. Hannah plays a nice cello duet about mid-way through. Great blending of guitar and mandolin on this one.
Notes
Title track, of course. We've sort of released this to internet radio and various other music avenues. It's rising up the charts on www.garageband.com. Diana won an award on GarageBand for "Best Female Vocals" for her stylings on this song. The lyric is an encouragement for all those losers in love to continue on with life, and, oh yeah, by the way, the very last line of the song reminds us that love is really about something much bigger than any one person's love you may have lost - excellent lyrical twist.

3. That's What She Says Play
That's What She Says
Credits
Tommy wrote it for his mother. 'Nuf said.
Notes
"Mom" to the judas feet kids is the most encouraging, helpful, self-sacrificing person on the planet. This song is a tribute to her using just a couple of examples of how she's touched the lives of countless young people through her career of teaching (and mothering). The big finish has exceptional blending of harmonica, guitar, & mandolin done by Tommy (he engineered all the songs on Not Alone except for 2 - and, oh yeah, he also plays all the instruments except for cello). Diana's vocals are so perfect that you want to listen over and over just to get more of her voice.

4. From Errand to Change
From Errand to Change
Credits
Another Tommy lyric. A "hit the road" kinda song.
Notes
Electric guitar work makes this song special on the CD. In the live performance, Hannah does mostly on cello what you hear on the CD from the guitars. Except for the cello at the beginning of the song, Tommy played all the instruments and did all the vocals for the CD. Maybe his best engineering work on the whole CD right here. Listen for the banjo blending in with the electric guitar!

5. More Love to Thee
More Love to Thee
Credits
Elizabeth Prentiss wrote lyric way back in the 1800's. Tommy did the musical arrangement. You can find this lyric in just about any Baptist hymnal.
Notes
Tommy and Diana sang this one together around a single microphone instead of doing the vocals on separate tracks. Wanted to give it an almost unfinished, natural sound. You'll notice on the CD that Errand to Change flows right into More Love to Thee. This connects the two songs not only musically, but also philosophically. The singer in "Errand..." turns his car around to go back to the one he loves, but knowing full well that "More Love..." really goes to Christ. Christianity isn't about what church you go to, it's about how you live out your faith in the day to day...and in the relevance on that intersection, Christ makes a difference in how you live.

6. Song of Relief Play
Song of Relief
Credits
Tommy wrote it. Tron Carter came to the studio one night and knocked out the drums without ever having heard the song before. We think he nailed it! Tommy plays a sweet electric guitar solo at the very end that demonstrates his giftedness on the six string.
Notes
This song is pretty much just as the title says, a song written to give relief to the broken hearted singer, desperate to move on from a failed attempt at love. On the CD, you'll want to stick around after the final cut for a hidden track inspired by this song. Tommy was just messing around in the studio with some "Relief" offshoots, but we liked one of them so much that we added it as a hidden track. On stage, in their live performance of this song, Diana and Tommy sing perhaps their most compelling. They do a couple of minute sidebar of "stepping off into the abyss" that you can't get enough of. When the song's over, you want them to do it again...NOW!

7. Lament
Lament
Credits
Diana wrote this song her senior year in high school. Originally titled "Graduate's Lament", she changed the name to simply "Lament" because the lyric could be identified with by any person any age at any time going through any crossroads time in his/her life.
Notes
One of the 2 songs we recorded at Stonewood Productions with David Hayes at the controls. Will Gallagher plays piano. Cole Grisham is on bass. Tron Carter laid down the drums. These guys are all incredible pros and are such a joy to work with. Anyone who's ever wished they'd done just a little more for the Lord or possibly regretted past actions (or inactions!) will identify with Lament.

8. This is For You Play
This is For You
Credits
Tommy wrote it.
Notes
We like the slide and how it blends with the acoustic. Bare bones production offers a simplistic song with a readily identifiable theme that anyone who's ever lost love will immediately understand, "This is for you...or maybe it's more for me..." Tommy leads out vocally and Diana adds some beautiful background harmonies. Again, simple in their styling to produce a sound to resonate in your heart as well as in your ear.

What can we say? This may be the favorite song of all of us. Do you have someone out there who you'd wait on forever? Then this just might become your theme song!

11. In A Picture
In A Picture
Credits
Tommy wrote it. Hannah had the idea to put the choir on that last chorus and then bring them back at the very end acapella.
Notes
That's Hannah, Tommy and dad in the choir at the end of the song. This song has found its way onto more Myspace profiles than any of our other songs.

12. The Marriage Song Play
The Marriage Song
Credits
Diana and Tommy wrote this together one Sunday afternoon after a particularly intriguing sermon from our pastor.
Notes
This is the second of the 2 songs recorded at Stonewood Productions with David Hayes at the controls again. Will, Cole and Tron again are on the piano, bass, and drums. Originally the 3rd verse was used as the 2nd verse, but we switched them because it felt like a better fit to detail the dowery that Jesus paid on the last verse. This song has already been requested by many to be played at their weddings.

13. The Performer Play
The Performer
Credits
Tommy and Diana again together on the lyric. They've written many songs on piano, but this one is the only one that made the cut on the CD.
Notes
Picture an entertainer at a circus. Perhaps a clown. Imagine him juggling shiny, shimmery balls. Glance out at the crowd, fascinated by the show. Such a pretty picture, but is it really? What goes on behind the mask? Does anyone really care? "The Perfomer" even goes so far as to ask, "Do you?"

14. Winter
Winter
Credits
Tommy wrote it.
Notes
Because of the hidden track at the end of this song, we couldn't get it to upload to give you a sample, so you'll just have to take our word on it that this song is a great closer for this CD. We decided to keep it all simplified and added nothing to the acoustic guitar instrumentally. It is the most basic of basic when it comes to song production, but we think it works. Originally, we'd recorded this song at Stonewood Productions with full band, and indeed liked how it sounded for the most part, but couldn't quite figure out that one "something" that wasn't right. Looking back, maybe that something was that it only needed almost nothing. "Winter" is a haunting look at what we are without the only thing that truly satisfies.
